Stage 2 - Loose Granular Carbon

Volume and capacity

Loose granules pack enormous surface area into the housing.
Water moves through quickly, so flow stays high.
High chemical capacity before the media is spent.
But water can channel through gaps between the granules.

Stage 3 - Compressed Carbon Block

No shortcuts

Carbon compressed into a solid block with no gaps to channel through.
The tight structure also catches fine particulate matter.
Everything that survived stage 2 gets a second, denser pass.
Slower by design—so it gets more contact time, which is why it goes last.

The order is the design

Sediment first, so the expensive carbon is never spent on dirt. Loose granular carbon second, for volume and chemical capacity. Dense carbon block last, for a tight final pass. Run in that sequence, you get the strengths of both carbon types and neither of their weaknesses—ideal for Geigers Landing homes on city water or private wells.
