Stage 2 - Loose Granular Carbon

Water moves through quickly, so flow stays high.

But water can channel through gaps between the granules.

Stage 3 - Compressed Carbon Block

No shortcuts

Carbon compressed into a solid block with no gaps to channel through.
The tight structure also catches fine particulate matter.
Everything that survived stage 2 gets a second, denser pass.
